Lightweight, latex-free and 100% recyclable: this is Rewind® carpet

In recent decades, laying carpets has been anything but sustainable: the use of disposable carpets usually involves large mountains of waste. Fortunately, that’s about to change!

At JMT Floorcoverings, we do everything we can to do business as sustainably as possible and to look for circular solutions. One of them is the use of Rewind® carpet. The name says it all: this carpet can be rewound and 100% recycled.

Rewind® ‘closes the loop’

The eye-catching Rewind® event carpet is designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible in use. This is evident from two important moments in the use of the carpet, namely through the ‘green’ production process of the carpet and the recycling process after use. From patented fibres to premium pellets, Rewind® starts with a single mono material, namely polypropylene, and ends with exactly the same.

Not a single drop of water is used in the production of Rewind® carpet, because the use of latex is not allowed. An additional advantage is that energy consumption is drastically reduced. Best of all? Rewind® ‘closes the loop’. Each event carpet can easily be converted into pure mono-recyclate pellets. That means a ‘new’ raw material that is ready for the next life!

A few thousand square meters

After laying the Rewind carpet at the location, the JMT Floorcoverings team will also take care of the removal of the Rewind® carpet for larger orders. A large truck is then necessary to be able to load the carpet. The amount of the carpet ranges from hundreds of m2 to thousands of m2.

The Rewind® carpet is made of ‘lightweight’ material which makes it easy to collect and fold, for loading and transport. To do this, the truck will be driven into the hall so that the experienced team of JMT Floorcoverings can load the carpet smoothly.

A huge pile of carpet

During the removal of the carpet, it is extremely important for the team that they only load Rewind® into the truck. On the exhibition floor, a selection is immediately made and a huge mountain of carpet is created for the truck. If there are materials in the Rewind® carpet that are not suitable for recycling, this can still be removed from the load. This is not only important for a ‘clean’ recycling process, but also for safety during this process.

Important Quality Control

Before the material from the used Rewind® carpets arrives at the processing plant, the truck is driven over a weighbridge. The difference in weight on arrival and departure is the material supplied. Next, it’s time for an important quality check. Among other things, the purity and flow rate are checked.

Has all the loose material been unloaded from the truck at the processing plant? Then it goes into pressing machines. These turn all the loose material into large bales so that they can easily be stored until the moment of processing.

Only one type of material

By eliminating all latex during the production of the carpet, it can be easily converted into high-quality pellets of pure polypropylene afterwards. All at once, because only one type of material is used.

A concrete example: the recycled Rewind® event carpet is injected into, for example, plastic car parts. Are you buying a new car in a few years’ time? Then there is a chance that recycled event carpet has been used in the manufacture!
